How to open HEIC photos on Windows
iPhones save photos as HEIC. Windows can open them with the right extension, or you can avoid the problem with JPG.
Step by step
- In the Microsoft Store, search for HEIF Image Extensions and install it.
- If the photos still do not open, check the Store for HEVC Video Extensions (it may be paid or provided by your device maker).
- To avoid HEIC in the future, on your iPhone open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible.
- To keep HEIC but also get a JPG, enable Also send JPG copies of HEIC photos in Jumpa settings.
- Open the files in Photos or any image viewer.
Tips
- Originals are never changed: JPG copies are extra files.
- Most Compatible produces larger, less efficient files than HEIC.

Frequently asked questions
Why does Windows not open HEIC?
HEIC needs codecs that are not always installed by default. Installing the extensions from the Microsoft Store usually solves it.
Does converting reduce quality?
JPG is lossy. Jumpa keeps your HEIC original and adds a high-quality JPG as an optional extra.
